Dear Friends,
It's a New Year and the good news keeps coming:
To celebrate simplicity, there will be just one deadline for all four Spring 2010 Orlando Prize categories! The deadline for Creative Nonfiction, Short Fiction, Poetry, and Sudden Fiction will be February 28, 2010. The Orlando Prize is open to women of all nationalities. All applications must be written in English and submitted online. Good luck to all who apply. We honor the discipline it takes to refine and submit your writing, and look forward to considering your work.
We also send our support to all of the women considering applying or working on the application for the 6th $50,000 Gift of Freedom. Though the October deadline (10.11.10) is months away, we know that some of you are already out there working, poring over your words, reflecting on what it is that makes you a writer, that shape-shifting thing that leaves you no choice but to write. Even alone, and in "the dreamy stillness," we can hear what Barb Johnson describes as "the steady dum-te-dum-te-dum of the words of others sifted through the screen of who we are... the dum-te-dum-te-dum of everyone dreaming." Without dreams there would be no reality. Dream on. Write on. Give yourself that freedom.
And... don't forget to visit our website to stay up to date with AROHO's latest deadlines, forums, and events such as our Women & Creativity events in Albuquerque, NM. 2010 will be a year of real connections within our community, and we look forward to seeing or hearing from all of you throughout the course of the year.
In creativity,
A Room of Her Own
